Historians believe that the first time the village was mentioned in written sources was in 1783, under the name of Balašekulis. The number of homesteads at that time is unknown. There is a mention of the family of the forest keeper J. Strazdas from 1789 In 1830 the village consisted of 13 houses. After the abolition of serfdom peasants were given land and built 4 homesteads (1865). In the late 19th c. the village changed once more, as new families built new houses. In 1903 there were 34 residents. The expansion of the village ended at the beginning of this century. The only 19th c. buildings that survived to this day are 3 residential houses, 2 hay storage buildings and 1 barn.
