More than a dozen years ago in Vyžuonos the sculptor Henrikas Orakauskas initiated the foundation of the Writers’ Hill, perpetuating the memory of two talented writers — the literary critic Antanas Masionis and the novelist Bronius Radzevičius — who had joined the Eternity so early.

Mr Orakauskas’ sculptures decorate various parts of Lithuania, including Vyžuonos. The personality and creative work is well-described by the art critic Salomėja Jastrumskytė: “Talking about Henrikas Orakausas’ works is an attempt to make a claim to the exceptional right to get to know the human nature. This is the Divine Comedy made visible. The jerky bronze surfaces and emotional-notional incursion of space melt his sculptures into the monolithic contexts of existence. The existence is comic. The existence is tragic. The range from flight to convulsion as if tensions the sculptures’ inner fibres.” The ensemble of sculptures attracts many people. The Writers’ Hill hosts literary festivals, featuring various writers, poets and other people, living in the world of art, poetry and prose.
